Basics of UPMM

Challenge:
Supervisors and managers had varying levels of understanding about how Units Per Minute (UPM) and Units Per Man Minute were calculated. This inconsistency created confusion when discussing performance metrics, making it harder to align on realistic goals and productivity expectations.

Solution:
I worked with an Operations director to develop a primer eLearning course on UPM, designed specifically for supervisors and above. The course covers the basics of calculating UPM, then allows users to calculate for themselves. This course was designed to help provide shared language across plants, and orient line leads to the concept as they moved up.

Results:
Supervisors and managers reported a clearer grasp of UPM and more confidence in understanding its use in RedZone as an evaluative metric.
